The Pickle Chronicles

Hathaway’s Handpicked Harvest – Spicy Garlic Pickle Spears – Take 2??

2.9 out of 5

This label looked like its seen better days, and i’m pretty sure those days were somewhere in 1993.  The printing is so bad that it’s actually hard to make out the ingredients.  I can tell that there are cucumbers and apple cider vinegar, which makes sense because I do like cucumbers and apple cider vinegar, both of which seem like normal ingredients for a pickle, although you don’t taste apple cider vinegar as much as you would think. There’s a lot to unpack in this jar. The pickles are very awkwardly cut and are in fact spears, but some of them resemble a form of spear I’ve never seen based on how they’re cut.  Some sort of rectangular spear that is clearly not from this world. There is literally zero crunch yet somehow they’re not soggy. You just bite through it and chew it and you never find a crunch. It’s not enjoyable in my mouth. The flavor says spicy, but I’m not really getting any spice and if there is something spicy, there’s no way I can read it on the awful label, but the brine does have a really nice taste when you take a sip. After a bit of digging into what the hell Hathaway harvest is, it turns out that it’s a farm somewhere in Vermont. And they’re known for their world, famous corn maze. I’ve gotta say if this was a crunchy pickle I might love it but right now it’s just not a pickle that I would buy again. I get great flavor from everything going on in there, but the mouse feel makes me hate it even though I like how it tastes. I feel like whoever is in charge of cutting up these pickles, probably got lost in the corn maze because I’ve never in my life seen a rectangular shaped spear. Or maybe they come from a dystopian future where all pickle spears are rectangular and the center of the corn maze is a portal between our future and the pickle’s past, and the only thing that can make the journey through time is a rectangular pickle spear…. either way, It doesn’t make any sense. It’s not crunchy. There’s too much of the inner cucumber exposed and I don’t like the way this makes me feel. I feel lost in my own emotional corn maze right now.  Maybe this is the beginning of the future the rectangular pickle spear comes from?

This is the 2nd time i’ve reviewed this pickle and I did not remember that I did it the first time. To my surprise this rating was a 2.9 compared to the original 3.0 which tells me if i’m nothing else, I am consistent.

Here is the original review.
